Summary
The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining the entire hotel facility, including the physical building structure, all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and related equipment. This individual ensures the upkeep of guest areas and maintains an attractive hotel. Manages all rehabilitation, expansion, and special projects and provides consistent, cost-effective maintenance programs that ensure the hotel's safe and efficient operation. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience with PTAC, pool maintenance, and painting.
Essential Functions

- Supervises develops, and maintains an ongoing maintenance operation for the hotel, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, preventive maintenance, hotel rooms, air/heating, units, ice machines, swimming pools, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, water softeners, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations, etc.
- On an ongoing and regular basis, inspect and evaluate the physical condition of the entire hotel asset, including all guestrooms, public areas, and the pool area; complete and retain inspection reports on a regular and timely basis, using then-current Company inspection forms.
- Works closely with other departments (e.g., the Front Office and Housekeeping Departments on maintenance and repair issues), and the Corporate Project Manager to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Orders material and completes work assignments on time and by a specified date.
- Performs work within departmental expense plans. Assists the General Manager in capital budgeting.
- Maintains hotel by painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities.
- Notifies management concerning the need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
- May tend furnace, air conditioner, and boiler to provide heat, cool air, and hot water for guests.
- Interprets specifications, job orders, and company policies for maintenance employees.
- Oversees compliance with OSHA standards regarding proper usage, dilution of products, equipment safety, and usage, as well as blood-borne pathogen precautions and procedures.
- Hospitality Risk Management Procedure Manual for all OSHA standards.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules and recommends improving production.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists employees in resolving work problems.
- Supervises and motivates maintenance staff, including hiring, firing, coaching, counseling, evaluating, and training activities.
- Attends periodic meetings with the General Manager and/or department heads, conducts and/or participates in safety meetings at designated intervals with hotel staff.
- Submits to management recommendations for painting, repairs, furnishings, equipment relocation, and space reallocation.

Supervisory Responsibility
Directly manages all maintenance and HVAC personnel, including outside contractors. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, performance appraisals, planning, assigning and directing work and addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
Work Environment
The job operates in public and non-public areas of the property, including guest rooms. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to various extreme conditions while performing their duties. The noise level in the work environment and work areas can be loud.

The employee is regularly required to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, lift, and pull items over 50 pounds. The position requires manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills, and following written and oral instructions and procedures.

Required Education and Experience
- Minimum of five years of experience in Facilities Operations or related hospitality field.
- General knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and general maintenance procedures.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and operations
Preferred Education and Experience
- Prior experience as Facilities Director in the hospitality field.
