Job Description:
The Area Manager - l role within the Distribution Center (“DC”) of OSJL is responsible for managing an operations team executing the day-to-day operations of a specified area within OSJL’s DC. The Area Manager - l role provides direction and leadership regarding the workflow within that area. This role is ultimately responsible to ensure that the daily workflow is executed timely and accurately. The Area Manager - 1 role’s leadership, operational expertise, and strategic thinking are essential for driving performance, optimizing costs, and meeting customer demands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cultivate and champion a culture of safety and well-being.
- Partner with management-level colleagues to standardize shift practices.
- Evaluate shift performance against key business objectives (“OKRs”) and implement strategies to enhance operational excellence.
- Direct and coach teams to consistently meet productivity, quality, and accuracy standards, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Manage associate performance, write performance reviews, and provide coaching and feedback.
- Lead and assist with hiring, coaching, and disciplinary actions for team members as well as train new team members.
- Ensure the timely and accurate completion of all required reports (e.g., wave reports, floor reports).
- Develop, assign, and oversee work schedules and assignments to ensure efficient department operations.
- Responsible for confirming final execution of each projection to constituents and for meeting allocation timelines.
- May be required to work closely with cross functional teams.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations.
Qualifications:
- 6 or more years experience in leading and managing teams is preferred.
- Prior responsibility in large distribution center operations, logistics, supply chain and/or related fields is required.
- A college degree is preferred with a preferred focus on supply chain or logistics.
- Experience communicating with a wide range of stakeholders is required.
- Experience in using data or anecdotal evidence to influence business decisions is required.
- Robust computer skills are required, including, but not limited to, spreadsheets, documents, presentations, analytic tools, and Google platform proficiency (i.e., Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets).
- Experience in Lean Six Sigma methodology and Kaizen continuous improvement tools preferred; continuous improvement project experience preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
Work Environment:
- Works primarily in a distribution center environment.
- Responsible for physical activities including using equipment, bending, stooping, climbing to heights of 20 feet or more, reaching, and lifting on a frequent basis: should be able to lift and move 50 lbs of material on an occasional basis. A small portion of time will be sedentary, with near vision use for reading and computer use.
- The warehouse environment is characterized by temperature extremes, moderate noise, movement of conveyors and equipment, and other conditions associated with the operation of a high volume distribution center.
- Some work in a climate-controlled office environment remaining stationary at a desk, table, or computer workstation for extended periods of time. Frequently uses near vision for reading and computer tasks.
