Job Description:
The Tax Manager role at OSJL is responsible for managing the Tax Department’s daily operations and ensuring that the Company’s tax strategy is executed efficiently and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax laws. This role also leads a team of tax professionals and actively participates in the preparation and filing of a large volume of federal and state tax returns for various entity types, including LLCs, partnerships, S corps, individuals, and trusts. This position requires a blend of hands-on tax expertise and leadership and strategic thinking skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Development: Manage, mentor, and inspire tax accountants; provide guidance, conduct performance reviews, and foster collaboration; delegate tasks while balancing time spent on tax preparation.
- Tax Preparation: Execute and participate in the timely and accurate preparation of federal, state, and local income tax returns for various entities, including, but not limited to LLC's, partnerships, S-corps, individuals and trusts. Ensure compliance with tax regulations.
- Compliance Management: Review, manage, and approve tangible personal property tax returns and real estate tax assessments, the preparation and payment of sales/use tax for retail stores and affiliated entities, and handle any other compliance matters as they arise.
- Strategic Tax Planning: Support tax risk assessment and planning initiatives; research opportunities to minimize tax liabilities and maximize efficiencies.
- Process Improvement: Support and implement tax law changes; identify and execute process improvements to enhance accuracy and streamline operations. This includes exploring and implementing efficient solutions, including new software and/or outsourcing.
- Tax Research & Analysis: Research complex tax issues; assess impacts of legislation; consult with professionals and communicate findings.
- Audit Liaison: Support and assist with federal, state, and local tax audits, inquiries, and notices; serve as a secondary point of contact for tax authorities.
- Financial Reporting: Ensure accurate accounting for income taxes; implement tax-optimized accounting procedures, and maintain accurate tax data in financial statements. Communicate with senior leadership on tax matters.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field is preferred.
- A CPA, MS in Tax, and/or EA or equivalent is required.
- 5 or more years of progressive tax experience, with at least 3 years in a management role, is required.
- Demonstrated expertise in preparing federal and state income tax returns for various entity types (LLCs, partnerships, S-corps, individuals, and trusts).
- Proven experience with sales and use tax compliance, tangible personal property tax and real estate tax assessments are a plus.
- Highly proficient in using tax preparation software, Microsoft Excel, and the Google platform (ie. Sites, Drive, Docs, Sheets).
Work Environment:
- Works primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety and health hazard

- Works in an office environment remaining stationary at a desk, table, or computer workstation for extended periods of time. Frequently uses near vision for reading and computer tasks.
