Job Description:
The Lumper role within the Distribution Center (“DC”) at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” or “Company”) is responsible for unloading merchandise on trailers manually and using powered pallet jacks in a manner that meets Company established standards in safety, quality, and productivity. The Lumper role will remove floor loaded cases from import containers and trailers and build pallets according to the proper TI/HI, or place the cases directly on a conveyor for induction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accurately complete and submit daily productivity sheets.
- Unload freight in priority order and in an efficient and safe manner including, but not limited to, verifying trailer numbers and dock doors before unloading.
- Manually remove cases from a container or trailer and organize according to direction.
- If building pallets, ensure TI/HI and case counts are accurate and verified.
- If placing goods on an induction line, ensure accuracy of case counts, and stock keeping unit (SKU).
- Sort and stack pallets and bales as necessary.
- Operate and inspect technology including Walkie Talkies, forklifts, and powered or manual pallet jacks.
- Complete proper and accurate documentation.
- Inspect and sign out equipment on a daily basis.
- Maintain a neat, orderly, and clean work area to meet or exceed area safety, quality, and productivity standards.
- Maintain compliance with standard operating procedures and OSHA standards.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Successful completion of the Powered Equipment Training Program and attainment of license, as well as satisfactory completion of the Shipping Area Training Program, and associate proficiency tests.
- Ability to pass a basic math test.
- English speaking, reading, and comprehension skills; bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
- Ability to learn to use a radio frequency scanner and a wrapping machine.
- Ability to operate powered industrial equipment and obtain any applicable license.
- Ability to meet area productivity, quality, safety, housekeeping, and attendance standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- The DC warehouse environment is characterized by temperature extremes, noise, movement of conveyors and equipment, and other conditions associated with the operation of a high volume distribution center.
- Should be able to lift and move 50 lbs of material on a regular basis.
- Should be able to bend, lift, stretch, and reach both below the waist and above the head.
- Works primarily in a DC environment. Must be able to remain stationary and/or continually move for up to 10 - 12 hours per day.
