Job Description:
The Safety Training Coordinator role within the Distribution Center (“DC”) at OSJL fosters a safe and healthy work environment for OSJL associates. This role is responsible for delivering engaging and informative safety training sessions and ensuring all new hires and existing staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills to work safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive safety training programs, including, but not limited to, new hire onboarding support, equipment operation procedures, safe work practices, hazard mitigation, personal protective equipment usage, emergency procedures, and ongoing awareness initiatives.
- Conduct practical demonstrations, safety audits, and skills inspections to identify areas for improvement and refine the safety culture.
- Partner with operations leaders to identify training needs, ensure alignment with Company policies, and collaborate with area managers to address safety incidents and concerns.
- Maintain accurate training records for compliance and future reference.
- Participate in Safety Committee meetings to advocate for and champion a safe work environment across the entire Distribution Center.
Qualifications:
- 1 or more years of experience working in a distribution center environment is required.
- Strong understanding of basic safety principles and best practices.
- Proven ability to adhere to all safety protocols.
- Possession of a valid certification for each Powered Industrial Truck necessary to the functioning of the department.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and motivate a diverse workforce.
- Written comprehension skills in English are required. The ability to communicate with others in spoken English is required, and the ability to communicate in Spanish is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic with a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Work Environment:
- Work primarily in a distribution center environment. Must be able to both remain stationary and continually move for up to 8 to 10 hours per day.
- Responsible for physical activities including, but not limited to, using equipment, positioning self to properly complete tasks, ascending and descending to heights of 20 feet or more, moving and transporting merchandise on a frequent basis; should be able to lift and move 50 lbs of material on a regular basis.
- The warehouse environment is characterized by temperature extremes, noise, movement of conveyors and equipment, and other conditions associated with the operation of a high volume distribution center.
