Position Summary

Join our dynamic team as a Lunar Surface Navigation Engineer and become a vital contributor to support NASA as an Oceaneering Teammate on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) II contract. As an integral part of our organization, you'll play a crucial role in the GN&C Aerosciences & Flight Mechanics section in the Engineering Department on the NASA JSC Engineering, Technology and Science II (JETS II) Contract.

Someone in this role would typically have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. This position can be hired at any level in our professional career framework, depending on business need at the time of hire.

**International travel may be required. Straight time overtime, 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off), and/or 1 day of telework per week may be available**

Duties And Responsibilities

Some of your major responsibilities will include:

  • Support development of navigation algorithms for a lunar surface vehicle
  • Support testing and analysis of navigation algorithms
  • Review partner system requirement and definition documents.
  • Formally document the results of all design and analysis activities
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

REQUIRED :

  • A BS Engineering degree from an accredited engineering school.
  • Knowledge in the design, analysis, and/or implementation of navigation algorithms.
  • Experience with spacecraft simulation modeling and analysis navigation systems.
  • Experience with software image processing techniques.
  • Knowledge of inertial measurement units, GPS, star trackers, sun sensors, and/or barometric altimeters.
  • Proficiency with C/C .
  • Proficiency with Python.

Preferred

  • A bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school and a minimum of two (2) years of related engineering experience, or a master's degree from an accredited engineering school.
  • Object oriented software development skills.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Hardware-in-the-loop lab data handling experience.
  • Safety and flight critical embedded software development experience.
  • Experience with NASA/TRICK simulation environment.
  • Coursework and/or in-depth knowledge of:
  • Extended Kalman Filtering.
  • Linear and non-linear state estimation theory.
  • Linear covariance analysis.
  • AI & Machine Learning.
  • Numerical methods.
  • Astrodynamics.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
