What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomy Supervisor position at OCH Regional Medical Center?
Primary Responsibilities
- Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates quality Phlebotomy Services to customers in accordance with hospital policies / procedures and criterion established by various legal and regulatory accrediting bodies.
- Manages / Oversees that responsibilities of the Phlebotomists are performed in an accurate, timely, cost effective, professional, and confidential manner.
- Supervises phlebotomy, order entry and courier operation of the laboratory.
- Promotes and enforces departmental compliance with general safety and infection control standards.
- Orients, trains newly hired phlebotomist and creates phlebotomy staff schedule.
- Completes and delivers yearly performance reviews of phlebotomy staff. Completes continuing education to staff as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned while demonstrating willingness, ability, and team spirit to provide optimal customer satisfaction. The supervisor must help with collections and be prepared to cover shifts when there is not a phlebotomist available. The incumbent must be able to stay late on certain occasions, must make sure all phlebotomy and secretary positions are covered. Must keep all supplies for phlebotomy ordered. Accounts with Laboratory manager with any disciplinary action needed. Consults with HR on disciplinary issues if needed.
- Assists with orientation / in service and attends, demonstrates, and participates in required in services, performance improvement activities, and other educational programs.
Specimen Collection : Must be able to collect the appropriate specimens for all tests ordered.
Result Processing : Ensures the results of tests performed are distributed to the appropriate areas.
Bedside Testing : Performs bedside blood glucose analysis as needed.
Order Entry : Ensures Outpatient Orders are entered and processed correctly
