This job provides accurate interpretive services required by local and international Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients and their families, Ochsner Health System staff and lay personnel to facilitate effective communication. Assumes responsibility for all aspects related to LEP patients seeking medical care and treatment at Ochsner Health System.
Education
Required - High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred – Two Years Of College
Work Experience
Required - None
Preferred – Two Years Interpretive Experience
Certification
Preferred- Interpreter Certification
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.

- Excellent and fluent verbal and written communications in both English and the required language
- Knowledge and ability to communicate medical terminology in both English and the required language
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to establish and maintain professional and cooperative relations with internal and external customers
- Self-directed including the ability to work independently and make sound judgments in order to resolve problems and concerns in a timely manner
- Provide accurate verbal and written interpretation/translation services for Ochsner patients, family members, staff and others
- Provides excellent customer service through effective communication
- Assist patients throughout their visit from arrival to departure
