What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Shift Supervisor position at OCI Global?
Help set and monitor performance criteria, objectives, and goals for the shift in the areas of Safety, Environment, Performance and Production. Plan, direct and monitor the work of operators on shift. Engage in self-development activities and promote the development of others. Actively assist in the management of the Operations Department. Schedule hourly overtime, review procedures, direct and document training, coach and counsel team members; coordinate operations activities with other refinery departments and role model expected behavior.
Your scope of responsibility- Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
- Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
- Maintain the Process Units and Utilities operational during the off shifts. When emergencies do occur, keep the loss of production and damage to equipment at the minimum possible. Adjust the operating conditions and charge rates of the individual units when needed for the overall operation of the plant.
- Observe work and monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards.
- Conduct employee training in equipment operations or work and safety procedures or assign employee training to experienced workers.
- Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers.
- Support environmental compliance by monitoring all refinery emissions to ensure corrective action is taken when needed. Report all emergency releases that occur to the proper local, state, and federal authorities according to regulations.
- Evaluate, with input from unit operators, any equipment problems that affect the operation of the refinery. Determine when emergency maintenance is required and call out the appropriate people.
- Review and discuss the lab test results with the operators to ensure corrective action is taken where needed. Report variances that require special attention by unit supervisors, engineering, or maintenance.
- Handle the basic first aid needs of the employees and obtain medical assistance when needed.
- In the absence of the Plant Manager, Operations Manager, and the Operations Superintendent, the shift supervisor has the authority and the responsibility of the plant.
- Provide various Operations Department-related reports as needed.
- Direct staff and monitor any oversight.
- Present a professional image at all times to clients and vendors and maintain a positive reputation of the company.
- Follow all relevant company policies and procedures.
- Assists other Departments and other administrative personnel as necessary.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 10-12 years operational leadership experience in a refinery and thorough knowledge of modern refinery processes required.
- 3-5 years of console experience preferred
Physical
- Ability to lift 20 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to sit for prolonged amounts of time required.
- Ability to effectively communicate through various means required.
Environmental
- Work is performed within an office environment, including office equipment – such as computers, telephones, and copiers.
- Work is performed within a warehouse environment, including industrial equipment – such as loaders, forklifts, and other machinery, requiring proper safety equipment.
- Noise levels are typically moderate-to-loud.
Travel
- Less than 10% of the time.
