Performs required task under the supervision of a Qualified Operator within the assigned area to Control equipment systems that process chemical substances into specified products. Monitors the production process and ensure efficiency of systems and equipment. Will work to familiarize themselves through a detailed training program with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field area. The Operations COOP program is geared toward providing an opportunity for students to gain experience through instruction and hands-on performance of day/ day task, while working together with qualified operators.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS TO BE PERFROMED UNDER SUPERVISION
Safely operate pumps, compressors, fired heaters, boilers, reactors, distillation columns and other plant equipment within safe operating ranges.
Make changes to the operating process as necessary to maintain product quality. Adjust control instruments, valves or switches in order to regulate pressure, temperature or flow rate of product; direct flow of product to other units or to maintain specified levels in tanks and towers; operate control room instrumentation systems and coordinate activities with outside operators.
Monitor the performance of plant equipment and process conditions; read flow meters, and temperature and pressure gauges; take routine readings on process variables.
Promptly respond to process alarms / constraints.
Perform general maintenance, repair, and cleanup of plant equipment for safe and efficient operation.
Draw samples of products from the process for laboratory testing. Perform lab testing on some products.
Be able to understand and follow plant policies and procedures.
Be able to troubleshoot problems to determine resolution within safe operating limits.
Keep management appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
Always present a professional image to clients and vendors and maintain a positive reputation of the company.
Follow all relevant company policies and procedures.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience, and/or Training
High school diploma or equivalent required
Two-year Associate degree in Process Operations or a related technical field and two years of experience
MUST BE In the final semester with no more than 7 credit hours remaining (including COOP hours – 5)
Minimum GPA 3.0
Previous Industrial experience- preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
Safety, Health, & Environmental – knowledgeable of the concepts, procedures, and regulations affecting the effective safety of a facility.
Science – Using scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
Critical Thinking – Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Work is performed within an industrial environment, with heavy machinery.
Work is performed in the “field”, requiring personal protective equipment (PPE).
