PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to perform manual and skilled labor work and repairs related to park and recreation
athletic fields, grounds, buildings, facilities and equipment; to include operating equipment, general housekeeping tasks and
park inspections. The position reports to the assigned Park Services Crew Leader.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other
duties may be required and assigned.

Performs various manual tasks associated with field maintenance, which may include preparing athletic fields for use,
dragging ballfields, marking lines on athletic fields, leveling batting boxes and base pads, leveling/painting pitching mounds,
painting bases, inspecting/repairing sports equipment, building/repairing fences, painting buildings and equipment,
installing/repairing sprinkler systems, cleaning/moving bleachers, and lifting/moving heavy materials.

Performs various manual work tasks associated with grounds maintenance, which may include mowing grass,
edging/trimming fields and landscaped areas, blowing leaves/debris from grounds, spreading grass seed or fertilizer,
watering landscaped areas, cutting tree limbs, pruning shrubs, mulching grounds, laying sod, maintaining flowerbeds,
mixing/applying pesticides and herbicides, sweeping/raking grounds, emptying trash cans, disposing of
litter/trash/recyclables from grounds, transporting trash to dumpster, digging holes/trenches, shoveling materials,
lifting/moving heavy materials, inspecting/maintaining playgrounds and pressure washing.

Performs various manual tasks associated with building maintenance, which may include plumbing, painting, electrical,
carpentry, drywall, housekeeping, gymnasium maintenance, filter replacements, appliance repairs, pest control, minor roof
repairs, and other relevant building tasks.

Performs general maintenance and/or repair of county parks and recreation buildings, facilities, grounds, equipment, park
amenities and related systems; performs general work involving mechanical, fencing, irrigation, landscaping, signage, picnic
tables/benches and painting parking lot lines; assists with facility event set-up/take-down, emergency weather preparations
and other general work as needed.

Performs various cleaning/housekeeping tasks, which may include vacuuming/cleaning floor surfaces, shampooing carpets,
mopping/stripping/waxing floors, cleaning restrooms and shower stalls, refilling restroom soap/paper product supplies,
cleaning windows, emptying trash containers and disposing of trash, cleaning recreation buildings, and ensuring the safe
disposal of hazardous waste.

Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects, which may include a truck,
utility vehicle, tractor, riding mower, Toro Sitework System, skid steer loader, bush hog, backhoe, drag mat, string
trimmer, edger, blower, pulverizer, hedge trimmer, generator chain saw, post hole digger, ladder, chemical sprayer,
paint sprayer, chalking machine, carpet cleaning machine, shovel, rake, mechanic’s tools, carpentry tools, plumber’s
tools, electrician’s tools, carpentry tools, pressure washer, vacuum, mop, broom and other tools/equipment as needed
to perform job functions.

Performs general preventative maintenance and repairs necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable
condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, replacing parts, greasing

equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency
and safety and reports faulty equipment.

Organizes utility closet; monitors inventory levels of equipment, tools, supplies, and cleaning products; initiates request for
new or replacement materials.

Transports, loads and unloads various equipment, supplies and materials used in projects and park events.

Routinely inspects high frequency park and playground areas for maintenance/repairs; responds to safety and security
issues.

Prepares and receives various forms, correspondences, reports, manuals, or other documentation; reviews, completes,
processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate
work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages or
directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary.

Maintains a comprehensive and current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws and regulations, attending workshops
and training opportunities as available.

Adheres to and ensures adherence to all county Safety Policies and Procedures; utilizes precautionary safety equipment,
maintains safe working practices and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.



ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
  • Operates a motor vehicle to conduct work activities.
  • Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by vocational/technical training with one (1) to three (3) three years previous
experience and/or training in maintenance of athletic fields/courts, mechanics, painting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry,
general building construction/maintenance/repair, grounds maintenance/repair, or related field work; or any equivalent
combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must attain and maintain certification in CPR, First-Aid, and Pesticide Application. Must possess and maintain a valid
Georgia driver’s license. May be required to work in the evenings, weekends and/or holidays to meet department needs,
such as events, tournaments, and/or responding to weather or emergency situations.

Candidate must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions; perform manual labor; operate light to
medium sized equipment and tools; follow standardized practices and procedures; work independently; be courteous and
polite with staff and the public.

prescribed schema or plan. Includes judging whether readily observable functional, structural or compositional

Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding
work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and
that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor,
depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions,
such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations,
toxic agents, disease, or pathogenic substances.
