GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
The purpose of this position is to receive incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, to dispatch calls for law enforcement, fire, EMS and other personnel and services in an accurate, timely and professional manner, to maintain accurate and complete dispatch records, and to perform related work as required. The position works according to set procedures under occasional supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES :
- Perform computer aided dispatching work.
- Monitor and respond to radio communications.
- Track location of field units, provide info and directions.
- Dispatch back up assistance as needed.
- Provide support for field officers including requested judicial, FBI and local criminal histories, sex offender registries and other felon or criminal records.
- Initiate calls to persons at the request of officers; wreckers etc.
- Transmit and receive information regarding criminal activity on NCIC computer.
- Provide routine assistance and information to caller such as providing directions.
- Maintain related records, forms, logs, etc.
- Monitor weather radio and alerts appropriate personnel of inclement conditions.
- Receives and responds to public inquires, requests.
- Prepares and submits various reports as required.
- Maintains dispatch center work area and equipment.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Requires performing skilled work involving rules / systems with almost constant problem solving. Requires manuals and maps to solve practical problems, filling our forms, filing entering information into cad. Requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure. Requires staying calm during stressful emergency situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
The educational requirement for this position is : Completion of high school / GED.
Education may not be substituted for experience.
Related-experience required : 1 year.
Experience may be substituted for education.
Must be able to type 35 words per minute.
