Mechanic: As a mechanic, the first and most important responsibility of all is to ensure the safety and general well-being of co-workers, drivers, and visitors. The track is the primary attraction at Octane Raceway and having a fleet of karts in proper working condition is vital to the success of the venue.
Specific Responsibilities
- Proper use of safety equipment: safety glasses, welding jacket, gloves, face shield, helmet, safety belt etc.
- Proper use of tools: no chrome sockets on air tools etc.; use tools for their intended purpose.
- Operate karts in accordance with established company policies and procedures.
- Maintain the facility in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Keep an open line of communication with Shop Manager, Track Managers, Track Marshals, and General Manager on all relevant issues.
- Ensure that properly prepared karts, in adequate numbers, are ready for the day. A properly prepared kart is safe, fully decaled, clean, and runs excellently.
- Assist in the operation of the shop so the workload and various special projects can be completed. This includes properly filled out work orders and keeping track of parts used/needed.
- Repair vehicles to the highest quality standards.
- Mount and dismount tires.
- Charge new stock of batteries.
- Have the ability to operate a forklift.
- Perform weekly kart inspections.
- Have the “fleet” attitude; if it happens to a few it could be a trend.
- The ability to notice and track failure trends.
Miscellaneous Duties:
- Assist other departments as necessary.
- Keeping the shop and adjacent area clean, neat and sanitary.
- Maintain a courteous and professional attitude with co-workers.
Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work all shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
- May be indoor or outdoor setting depending on occasion with varied weather conditions.
- Will work near moving or mechanical parts.
- May work near toxic/caustic chemicals and with fumes or airborne particles.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to speak, read and hear English.
- Must have close and distant vision.
- Must be able to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent walking, standing and moving between tight spaces.
- Will walk for extended for long periods of time, possibly for extended distances.
- Frequently lifts/carries up to 50 lbs to chest height.
- Continual use of manual dexterity and gross motor skills with frequent use of bi-manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
- Able to reach hands and arms in any direction and kneel and stoop repeatedly.
