Job Summary:
The Driver Lead (DOT) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a team of drivers, ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency. This role involves coordinating schedules, training drivers, filling in for vacations/callouts, coordinating vehicle maintenance with Penske, and addressing any operational challenges. The Driver Lead acts as a liaison between the drivers and the management team, ensuring clear communication and smooth operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership:
- Lead, manage, and motivate a team of drivers to achieve operational goals.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support to drivers to ensure high performance.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all drivers adhere to DOT regulations and company policies.
- Conduct safety meetings and ensure all drivers are trained on safety protocols.
- Address and resolve any safety violations, incidents or near misses in accordance with company policy.
- Operational Management:
- Coordinate driver schedules and ensure sufficient driver coverage at all times to support production operations.
- Work closely with the warehouse and inventory team to ensure timely and accurate deliveries between Octopi facilities.
- Coordinate with vehicle lease provider (Penske) all vehicle maintenance requirements - PM's, breakdowns and/or safety concerns.
- Communication:
- Act as a point of contact between drivers and management, facilitating clear and effective communication.
- Address and resolve driver concerns or issues in a timely manner.
- Ensure drivers are informed of any changes to schedules, processes or company policies.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Assist in the investigation and documentation of any accidents or incidents.
- Adhere to all PPE and GMP requirements.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in using Wave and other relevant software.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a transportation or logistics role, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead position.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance requirements.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a minimum of 5 years driving experience required.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Extended periods of sitting or standing may be required.
- Ability to drive and operate vehicles for extended periods.
