What are the responsibilities and job description for the QC Microbiology Lab Technician position at Octopi Brewing LLC?
Job Summary:
The Quality Assurance Microbiology Laboratory at Octopi ensures the safety and freshness of our products. Technicians in this lab perform various microbiological assays and analysis, and work as a team to produce results in a timely fashion. Technicians occasionally engage in research and development, and process improvement of protocols with the Sr. Microbiologist. Traditional microbiology and molecular biology methods are employed to maintain successful results.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform, interpret, and evaluate microbiological analyses.
- Develop and trend microbiological information.
- Facilitate quality improvement and problem solving.
- Perform spread plate and membrane filtration plating methods.
- Perform and interpret qPCR analysis (not limited to preparing mastermixes, reagents, and sample preparation).
- Perform and analyze various cell staining methods.
- Prepare microbiological growth media.
- Perform sterilization of liquid media and waste.
- Perform regular inventory of consumables, reagents, media, and other materials.
- Clean and maintain lab equipment, such as autoclaves, incubators, fridge/freezer, glassware, thermocyclers, and flow hoods.
- Maintain 5S conditions in the laboratory
- Perform sample preparation and analysis on the Vitek 2 Compact microbial analysis machine.
- Adhere to all PPE and GMP requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biology, or a related field
- Prior experience in a microbiology laboratory is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of microbiological techniques and standards
- Proficiency in laboratory information management and data analysis tools is a plus.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Brewing experience is a plus but not required.
