JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The Recreation Aide positions assists in the implementation and provide support during activities and or lead activities as appointed by therapeutic recreational directors for a targeted population such as the disabled and elderly. To maintain awareness during programs and communicate in full to the Director of Recreation any knowledge to enhance the quality and customer satisfaction of the activities department.

Essential Functions

- Implement or assist in the activities programs of this facility.
- Observe resident attendance, mood, behavior and degree of involvement and chart daily in attendance book/communicate with Activities Director. Submit attendance and all necessary forms by the end of each shift
- Keep abreast of activities assessments and implement approaches provided in resident care plans. Communicate with recreation directors to stay abreast.
- Refer to Dir. of Recreation when the facility does not provide the services or needs of the resident.
- Implement activities with other departments as necessary.
- Maintain an open line of communication with therapeutic rec. directors and relaying all important information that affects the recreation department/resident.
- Health care information must be handled in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Encourage residents to participate in activities. Provide materials as necessary.
- Provide 1-1s to residents on daily basis as assigned
- Assist in or supervise when assigned, to conduct individual and or group activities that promote worth, self-esteem, physical, social and mental wellbeing of residents within this facility.
- Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as necessary.
- Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor at all times throughout the work day.
- Serve on, participate in, and attend various committees of the facility as appointed.
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with other departments within the facility to assure that daily activities can be performed without interruption.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.
- Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials and hazardous chemicals to your supervisor.
- In-services are done in a timely manner.
- Report all incidents/accidents immediately to Dir. of Recreation.
- Report all unsafe/hazardous conditions/equipment immediately to Supervisor
- Others duties as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the Activity Director.
Working Conditions
Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility.
Moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
Communicates with the medical staff, nursing service, and other department supervisors.
Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
Is subject to callback during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the day, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants.
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the Aids and Hepatitis B viruses.
May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
Must have a valid drivers license.
Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience in long-term care (preferred).
Experience
None required. On-the-job training provided.
