The EMS Skills Instructor will provide quality instruction and skills training in the subject matter assigned by the lead instructor of the course and in accordance with programmatic, TXDSHS, and CAAHEP/CoAEMSP guidelines and standards.
Specific Position Duties
Mastery of Subject Matter
- Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the teaching discipline
- Display ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of the field or discipline
- Connect the subject matter with related fields
- Stay current in the subject matter through professional development; involvement in professional organizations; and attending professional meetings, conferences and/or workshops
- Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position. II. Evaluation of Student Learning
- Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives
- Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives
- Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning III. Support of College Policies and Procedures
- Maintain confidentiality of student information
- Demonstrate high-level professionalism
- Substitute for other instructors in the teaching discipline in case of an absence
- Perform other duties as assigned by the EMS Program Direct IV. Other Duties
- Direct students in laboratory classes; train and supervise activities of students in lab settings; assist students with lab assignments and related activities
- Ensure that equipment, materials, and other resources, such as instructional aids are available for classes
- Take a lead role in upkeep and order of daily lab use
- Make arrangements for equipment repairs when machines break down
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Current Texas State or NREMT, Paramedic credential
- 2 or more years of work experience in EMS
- Evidence of being detail-oriented
- Evidence of effective problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
- Evidence of a strong work ethic, with a desire to help enhance student learning.
- Evidence of a willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth
