Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of both the Molecular and Core Laboratory, ensuring optimal workflow, turnaround times, and technical quality.
- Lead assay validation, test implementation, and performance monitoring of molecular platforms such as PCR, RT-PCR, NGS, and other emerging technologies.
- Ensure seamless operations in core testing areas including clinical chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, and immunoassays, aligning with best practices and clinical demand.
Quality & Compliance
- Uphold and enhance laboratory compliance with CLIA, CAP, and state/federal regulatory standards.
- Drive a culture of quality through internal audits, continuous improvement, and robust quality assurance/quality control programs.
- Lead laboratory preparedness for external inspections, accreditation reviews, and regulatory reporting.
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of licensed technologists, technicians, and support staff.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, and competency assessment to maintain excellence in technical skill and professional conduct.
- Promote collaboration, open communication, and cross-training to build a resilient and agile laboratory workforce.
Strategic & Technical Advancement
- Partner with executive and medical leadership to align laboratory services with institutional goals, including test menu expansion, operational scaling, and new technology integration.
- Evaluate and implement advanced diagnostic tools and systems that support clinical decision-making, personalized medicine, and emerging public health needs.
- Analyze key performance metrics and utilize data-driven strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and elevate service quality.
Fiscal & Resource Management
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring responsible use of resources while maintaining service excellence.
- Monitor inventory, optimize vendor relationships, and ensure availability of critical reagents, consumables, and instrumentation.
Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, or a related field (required)
- Applicable certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent organization (required)
- Advanced degree (MS, MBA, MPH) or Specialist in Laboratory Management certification (preferred)
Experience
- 5 years of progressive experience in a clinical laboratory environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity
- Hands-on expertise in molecular diagnostics, including molecular assay development and troubleshooting
- Strong foundation in core lab operations, instrumentation, and automation workflows
- Proven track record managing lab operations within high-throughput, regulatory-compliant environments
