About Odys

Our mission at Odys is simple - we build safe, sustainable aircraft to cut travel time in half on the world's busiest corridors. Our flagship aircraft Alta enables travelers to skip the big-airport hassle by using city helipads and local airports to connect cities less than 1,000 miles apart (approx 40% of flights). And on average cut CO2 by 76% on tens of billions of flight miles globally.

To get there, we start with our UAV called Laila for commercial logistics, medical transport, humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and defense missions. We’re deploying aircraft with launch partners (Fiji Airways, Honeywell, Aramex, US Navy) beginning in late 2025 and already have firm orders for aircraft under contract.

We’re a team of expert engineers from deep tech and aerospace that focus on fast iterations loops (completed transition flight faster than our peers) combined with mastery of the aircraft certification process. Previously, our team developed custom drones, brought multiple automotive platforms into production, and electrified transportation vehicles that magnetically levitate, that roll, that fly. Together, we’ve been learning, developing, building, testing, and preparing for this challenge our entire lives.

About The Role

As an EWIS Engineer at Odys, you will be responsible for designing, integrating, and testing electrical wiring systems that encompass both high‐voltage (400–800 VDC) power buses and low‐voltage control/avionics electronics for our hybrid‐electric Alta eVTOL aircraft and UAV Laila. This includes everything from propulsion harnesses and power distribution to standard avionics components, sensors, and flight‐control systems. You’ll interface with cross‐functional teams—avionics, propulsion, mechanical, controls—to ensure robust, compliant, and maintainable wiring throughout the aircraft. Expect a hands‐on environment where you’ll contribute from harness architecture through assembly and flight testing to help shape the future of sustainable aviation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate wiring architectures supporting both high‐voltage propulsion (400–800 VDC) and low‐voltage control systems (28 VDC, 12 VDC, 48VDC), as well as standard avionics interfaces.
  • Define routing, bulkhead placements, and insulation/shielding strategies that meet creepage/clearance requirements and EMI considerations for a range of voltage levels.
  • Produce detailed wiring diagrams, harness drawings, and technical documentation for manufacturing and integration.
  • Collaborate with avionics teams to integrate communication lines, flight controls, sensor suites, and mission‐critical electronics into a cohesive harness design.
  • Specify and select connectors, backshells, cable types, and protective methods for reliable low‐voltage signal integrity and compliance with standard avionics protocols.
  • Work with propulsion and power electronics teams to safely distribute and route HV lines for propulsion systems, including insulation/partial discharge mitigation and robust grounding/bonding practices.
  • Conduct hi‐pot, insulation, and partial discharge testing on HV harness assemblies to ensure reliability under operational conditions.
  • Ensure designs comply with aerospace standards, including ARP4754B, DO‐160, DO‐254, and IPC/WHMA‐A‐620, addressing both HV and LV considerations.
  • Perform and/or support functional checks (continuity, harness test), system‐level integration, and flight test validation of EWIS components.
  • Diagnose and resolve wiring‐related issues (e.g., insulation breakdown, EMI/EMC challenges, connector failures) through root‐cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Evaluate new tools, materials, and processes to enhance harness performance, reliability, manufacturability, and maintainability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of hands‐on experience designing and/or testing EWIS, wiring harnesses, HV harnesses, or cable assemblies in an aerospace or related industry.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools for harness design (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical, NX, or Capital).
  • Understanding of EMI shielding, grounding, bonding, and wire protection methods.
  • Familiarity with aerospace certification processes, including DO‐160 test requirements and ARP4754B systems engineering principles.
  • Strong problem‐solving abilities with attention to detail in a safety‐critical environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross‐functional engineering teams.
  • Self‐motivated, capable of juggling multiple tasks in a fast‐paced development cycle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DO‐254 hardware compliance or DO‐178C software aspects of aircraft systems.
  • Familiarity with high‐voltage harnesses and system‐level integration in hybrid‐electric or eVTOL aircraft.
  • Previous hands‐on collaboration with manufacturing teams and knowledge of wire harness assembly best practices (IPC/WHMA‐A‐620).
  • Track record of working on certification‐path aerospace development programs (e.g., Part 23 or Part 27/29).
