What are the responsibilities and job description for the OAF Animal Care Volunteer- Dive Operations position at OdySea Aquarium?
VOLUNTEER SUMMARY :
Dive Operations Volunteers will be influential in daily operations such as exhibit cleaning and maintenance, safety skill practices, husbandry, and guest engagement. Volunteers will spend time alongside Team Members in a supportive and supervised role with the opportunity to dive alongside diverse animals such as sharks, rays, invertebrates, and both freshwater and marine fishes and reptiles. This Volunteer role requires 4 hours per month for a minimum 6-month commitment in order to maintain active Volunteer status. Any necessary role specific Volunteer training occurs onsite.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Assist with daily tasks including (but not limited to) algae scrubbing, acrylic cleaning, vacuuming, husbandry, and equipment maintenance.
Proactively engage guests in a friendly and courteous manner. Uphold standards of excellence in guest experience.
Follow all policies and procedures set forth by OdySea Aquarium Foundation including adherence to zoological grooming standards.
Requirements
VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS :
Must be 18 years or older.
Satisfactory completion of a background check and drug screen.
Open Water certification from a recognized SCUBA agency.
Must be able to show record of an up-to-date dive physical.
Must be a strong swimmer, with the ability to pass departmental swim test.
Willingness to be flexible, learn, multitask, and be comfortable around animals.
Positive attitude, strong work ethic, team oriented, responsible, and enthusiastic.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds and able to access animal pools, exhibits, and enclosures.
Ability to stand for long periods of time, as well as walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb.
Must be comfortable greeting and engaging with guests with the possibility of speaking on microphone. Required to frequently talk and hear.
No impairment of senses that might interfere with the ability to complete tasks.
Must be able to take cues directly or indirectly.
Ability to complete tasks in an environment that may be loud, wet, or humid at times.
