Major Functions:
In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Senior Opioid Treatment Counselor provides services in a residential setting to a caseload of clients who have been diagnosed with an opioid use disorder. The main responsibility is to work with individuals to treat OUD, as well as to promote overall wellness and recovery.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Complete clinical assessment and level of determination, including determination of opioid dependence, a history of opioid dependence, or high risk of relapse relative to suitability for medication-assisted treatment, in accordance with applicable regulatory standards.
2. Conduct screening for co-occurring substance use and mental disorders.
3. Develop a comprehensive treatment plan in accordance with applicable regulatory standards.
4. Make referrals to collateral service providers on behalf of the assigned caseload.
5. Engage in care coordination activities with collateral service providers.
6. Assure access to health insurance, entitlements and other supportive and enabling services.
7. Document provision of care in clinical record according to applicable regulatory standards.
8. Coordinate medication services with community based opioid treatment programs.
9. Conduct toxicology testing using urine and oral fluid specimen collection methods.
10. Consult with the Nurse Practitioner to ensure treatment schedules are congruent with applicable medication protocols.
11. Deliver Motivation Enhancement and manualized Cognitive-Behavioral therapies.
12. Participate in administrative team meetings and clinical case conference.
13. Administer local performance measurement tools with opioid dependent clients in accordance with program guidelines.
14. Participate in in-service training according to program requirements.
Qualifications for position: New York State Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counseling Credential (CASAC) preferred. CASAC-T is good standing required. Minimum two years of experience providing SUD services.
Skills and knowledge required: Proficient in delivery of Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Proficient with clinical assessment and interviewing skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficient with MS Office applications and electronic health record.; Familiar with range of FDA approved medication options for treatment of opioid use disorder, Experience with Electronic Health Records and Health Information Exchange; Experience with clinical interviewing, individual and group counseling skills; 3 years of direct care work experience in a behavioral health care setting.
