The Strat II LD Special Education Teacher is responsible for designing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) for elementary students with significant learning disabilities. This position requires collaboration with general education teachers, support staff, and families to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of students.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Student Support:
Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) aligned with student needs and district/state standards.
Provide specialized instruction in reading, writing, math, and other core subjects using evidence-based strategies.
Adapt curriculum and instructional materials to accommodate students' learning styles and abilities.
Utilize a variety of teaching strategies, including direct instruction, small-group instruction, and assistive technology.
Monitor student progress through formal and informal assessments and adjust instruction accordingly.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with general education teachers to provide accommodations, modifications, and support within the inclusive classroom setting.
Collaborate with parents, guardians, and related service providers to ensure consistent support for student growth.
Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and professional development sessions.
Communicate effectively with families about student progress, challenges, and strategies for success.
Classroom Management & Compliance:
Create a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and independence.
Implement behavior management strategies and interventions in alignment with students’ IEPs and district policies.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including progress reports, IEP documentation, and compliance paperwork.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education regulations.
Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
Valid Strat II LD (Learning Disabilities) Special Education Endorsement required.
Iowa teaching license (or ability to obtain certification).
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and instructional strategies for students with learning disabilities.
Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt curriculum to meet student needs.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Proficiency in using technology to support instruction and student progress monitoring.
Experience in behavior management and intervention strategies preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in a school setting with young students who have diverse learning needs.
May require lifting, assisting students physically, and adapting to an active classroom environment.
