POSITION SUMMARY
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and direction for day-to-day production requirements in accordance with plant policies and procedures.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise shift production operation in accordance with plant policies and procedures
- Responsible for shift schedule to include : workstation assignments / rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignments, and back-up for absent employees
- Guide and supervise the work of shift employees, including leads
- Coordinate production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers
- Provide input on work procedures, priorities, ongoing feedback, and recommendations
- Assist in production as required to meet business needs
- Train, coach, and mentor production employees within designated area of responsibility
- Promote positive employee relations and effective team cooperation while enhancing individual performance
- Enforce safety protocols in all areas and with all employees
- Responsible for corrective / preventative actions in response to daily safety, product quality, and product delivery issues
- Coordinate with Production Manager and Human Resources for appropriate staffing levels
- Conduct shift meetings and participate in production employee meetings
- Responsible for meeting shift production requirements, identify shortcomings, and develop / execute recovery plans when needed
- Assist with quality control throughout production and investigate and implement corrective and preventive measures for ongoing quality issues to prevent, reduce, or eliminate reoccurrence
- Assist with development / implementation as well as maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs); ensure production team is working within these standards
- Communicate effectively with other Shift Supervisors and Production Manager with the goal of keeping them informed of situations relating to production problems, machine maintenance, inventory shortages, quality, safety, employee attendance, and other issues that may affect production
- Assist with completion of paperwork for Worker's Compensation injuries / illnesses and near misses; assist in accident investigations
- Assist in inventory counts as needed
- Ensure clean and safe work areas; assist with development of 5S expectations and overall execution
- Assist in employee performance reviews and development
- Support new product development initiatives within the organization
- Assist with trouble-shooting issues from quality, machine operation, and material processing, while developing and implementing solutions as needed to improve reoccurring problems and support continuous improvement
- Continually focused on reducing all forms of waste through the entire manufacturing process including, but not limited to, scrap, redundancy, material flow, and work content.
- Other duties as assigned.
