Senior Connector Development Engineer
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Manager of Product Development, the Senior Connector Development Engineer will lead the design and development of connector systems, with a focus on 3D model creation, 2D print development, and library management. The primary responsibility will be to manage the engineering efforts involved in developing high-quality connectors that meet both customer and company specifications, ensuring all program milestones are achieved. This role requires close coordination of the engineering process, including providing direction and oversight to a team of support engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Development:
- Lead the creation of 3D CAD models for connectors, ensuring designs meet customer requirements and industry standards.
- Develop and maintain detailed 2D prints, design documentation, and connector system libraries.
- Select materials and manage Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to optimize connector designs.
- Implement design changes and adjustments, including performing drawing stack-ups and validating parts for manufacturability.
- Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) for connector designs.
- Collaborate with various manufacturing plants to support the production of connector systems.
- Develop service manuals and manage the release of customer and internal drawings.
- Execute Design of Experiments (DOE) to validate design concepts during prototyping.
- Project Leadership & Management:
- Lead engineering activities for assigned connector programs, ensuring that design objectives and program milestones are met.
- Coordinate and monitor the engineering process to maintain timelines and product quality.
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, designers, and lab technicians to achieve project goals.
- Ensure alignment with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) processes for thorough documentation and project tracking.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Interact with internal and external teams to process information and support decision-making.
- Participate in cross-disciplinary meetings, providing engineering insights and updates to stakeholders.
- Assist in data management, maintaining accurate records and CAD models to support connector development.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in the design and development of connector systems, including understanding design attributes and industry standards.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or UG, for connector design.
- Familiarity with materials selection and design for progressive die and injection molding processes.
- At least 1-2 successful connector product launches, from design through production.
- Experience managing or supporting drawing releases, both internal and customer-facing.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, able to work with a diverse, global team of varying experience levels.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team of designers and lab technicians to achieve project goals.
- Familiarity with APQP processes for documenting and managing project milestones and deliverables.
Bonus Skills (Preferred but not required):
- Knowledge of EMI shielding for connectors.
- Experience running mechanical simulations using CATIA, SolidWorks, or NX.
- Experience with benchmarking of connector products.
- Experience with FEA simulations to validate connector designs.
Salary : $100,000 - $128,000
