Title: Preschool Assistant Teacher

JOB PURPOSE: With direction from Lead teacher, provide instruction in a safe and healthy learning environment for children. Work in partnership with parents to promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of children. Encourage parent involvement in all aspects of the program.
Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist lead teacher in working in partnership with parents and staff in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum that assures an optimum learning environment for young children.
Assist lead teacher to ensure that all children are making progress toward meeting or exceeding OESD 114 Head Start/ECEAP/Early Head Start School Readiness Goals through accurate documentation and assessment into the online assessment system, reviewing site level data quarterly with child development coach, and intentionally planning together for growth.
Assist lead teacher in establishing and maintaining an effective system of involving parents to support the individual learning of each child.
Assist lead teacher in ensuring program Performance Standards and developmentally appropriate practices, program goals and program priorities are met.
Assist lead teacher in working in partnership with parents to plan and implement child and family activities in the program.
Assist in preparing food.
Assist in performing developmental screenings and maintaining a healthy, safe and developmentally appropriate program.
Serve as a role model for volunteers.
Assist in providing opportunities for parents to learn about the growth and development of their children.
Participate in family staffings, Direct Service Team site meetings, parent meetings and all other parent center activities.
Participate in in-services and trainings as required.
Participate in home visits and parent conferences.
Support parent involvement in the classroom and all other educational opportunities.
Work as a part of a Direct Service Team that assists families in meeting their goals.
Assist in maintaining all required documentation including classroom records and attendance records.
Assist in maintaining equipment and purchasing supplies.
Uphold and assist in enforcing administrative regulations and board policies.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect children, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED.
Short Certificate or higher Washington State Early Childhood Education Certificate or previously qualified as an ECEAP Assistant Teacher in the electronic workforce registry before July 1, 2020.
One year experience working with preschool children in a group setting.
Experience working with low-income families, diverse cultures, and ethnic backgrounds preferred.
Prior Head Start/ECEAP experience or former Head Start/ECEAP parent preferred.
Food Handlers Certificate.
WA State Driver’s License.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Must have good human relations and interpersonal skills.
Ability to take initiative.
Ability to use multiple communication and technology systems, including electronic mail, computers, iPads, cameras, smart boards and web-based resources.
Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
Computer skills preferred.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to work as a team member.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in adherence to program policies.
Ability to work occasional evenings.
Ability to travel; reliable transportation; appropriate auto insurance.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
