This position is located in the Office of the People’s Counsel (OPC), an independent agency of the District of Columbia. The mission of the Office of the People’s Counsel is to advocate for the provision of safe and reliable quality utility services and equitable treatment at rates that are just reasonable, and nondiscriminatory.
The incumbent role will be to ensure the smooth operation of office logistics, technology, and facilities. Which provides daily maintenance and support for equipment, supplies, and IT systems to optimize efficiency and staff productivity. The specialist will also perform operational and administrative tasks, including meeting setups, vehicle fleet management, supply management, and provide staff support for outreach and events.
MAJOR DUTIES
Assists the Operations Division in day-to-day functions, including Facilities Maintenance. Ensures pantry areas are stocked with paper towels and cleaned. Monitors and replenishes paper supplies for all copy centers and offices with printers. Checks toner levels and ensures printers are operational across the office. Processes trash collection throughout the suite.
Perform setup and breakdown of meeting rooms, including IT and AV equipment configuration. Verify that conference room AV equipment (e.g., projectors, microphones) is fully functional.
Provide IT and Office Logistics by troubleshooting staff IT issues and assisting with IT setups during agency-wide gatherings or meetings. Provide staff with support for minor IT issues (e.g., login errors, equipment malfunctions).
Provides support in assisting office relocations and in-house deliveries of supplies. Install storage racks in offsite storage units and handle supply pickups/deliveries. Execute in-house mail deliveries and pickups.
Assist with fleet management by managing vehicle service deliveries to DPW/DDOT service centers.
Provide printer management to ensure all AV and video conferencing equipment is fully operational. Perform pre-meeting checks and troubleshoot issues before events. Verify Wi-Fi connectivity.
Maintain a regular inspection of office printers for functionality and monitor supply usage (toner, paper). Order printer supplies proactively and coordinate with vendors for maintenance or repairs.
Utilizes a personal computer using specific programs to type, store, and retrieve information and various other documents.
Assists the office by formatting, proofreading, preparing and packaging documents for external dissemination.
Receives telephone, correspondence and personal inquiries on a variety of matters affecting the office. The incumbent either answers inquiries personally or refers them to the appropriate staff member. Responds to the public when required.
Assists the supervisor in identifying office space and technical support needs and coordinating with inter/intra-agency staff to meet these needs.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of the mission goals, objectives, and operating policies and procedures of the Office of the People’s Counsel, as well as the Operations Division
Knowledge and proven experience in facility operations, IT support, or related roles. Ability to work effectively under pressure.
Basic knowledge of AV systems, IT troubleshooting, and office equipment maintenance.
Knowledge of and ability to apply the basic rules of grammar and good proofreading skills.
Knowledge of and ability to use various office equipment and extensive skill using Microsoft programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Knowledge of and the ability to apply administrative concepts, practices, principles, and processes of technical management to gather, analyze, research, and evaluate information/data.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship within and outside the office.
Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment in handling confidential and other critical matters.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for offsite assignments.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is primarily sedentary. It requires some walking, stooping, standing, and sitting. Physical activity, such as lifting and moving supplies or equipment is often required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is normally performed in an office setting. This role operates in a fastpaced office setting and occasionally requires offsite travel for event support, equipment deliveries.
