TITLE: Special Educational Assistant – Alternative Education - Emotional Support APPROVED 02/24/25
RATE: $19.93 - $21.58 (Based on years in PSERS)
LOCATION: Ridgefiled
2025-2026 School Year - 181 Working Days
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum two (2) years post-secondary (48 credits), associate degree, or passing score on the Special Education Paraprofessional Assessment test administered through I.U.5.
- Willingness to follow instructions of principal, teacher, school nurse, and/or school counselor, while working with children.
- Computer knowledge and/or willingness to work with new technology required.
- Experience working with students with diverse needs, preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: AEDY Principal
JOB GOAL: Support the delivery of the educational program to students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in small group or individual review with students completing coursework as designated by teacher.
- Assist students while included in elective subjects (ex. Art, Music, P.E.) and social interactive groups.
- Supervise students during lunch, arrival, and dismissal times.
- Assist with the integration of behavioral management for students assigned to the specific class of responsibility, creating a supportive learning environment.
- Collaborate with teacher, school counselor, and AEDY Principal to support students’ academic, social, and emotional needs.
- Record data under the direction/supervision of the classroom teacher.
- Participate in classroom meetings and student specific meetings as requested by the teacher or administrator.
- Follow Pennsylvania AEDY regulations, standards, and district guidelines in relation to process and procedures.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, material, and facilities.
- Complete all required trainings to increase knowledge and skills of working with AEDY population.
- Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to sit, talk, and hear.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and move quickly when necessary to promote student learning and/or safety.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Over 25 pounds requires assistance.
- Ability to pass UKERU physical skills training.

- Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
