OAA’s Peer Support Specialist plays a vital role in helping individuals transition from incarceration back into society. This position offers guidance, support, and resources to formerly incarcerated individuals as they reintegrate into the community. The Re-entry Peer Support Specialist provides personalized case management services, assists individuals in setting goals, and helps them access services such as housing, employment, healthcare, support groups, educational sessions, and legal aid. They also collaborate closely with community partners to ensure a successful re-entry. Additionally, the role includes some administrative duties to support the team’s smooth operation and efficient service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Re-entry Support:

· ​Case Management: Assess the needs of individuals returning to society from incarceration and create personalized re-entry plans.

· ​Resource Coordination: Connect clients to appropriate resources, including housing, employment opportunities, educational programs, healthcare, legal aid, and addiction treatment services.

· ​Support Services: Provide emotional and practical support during the transition process, helping clients overcome barriers such as stigma, financial instability, and family reintegration.

· ​Advocacy: Advocate on behalf of clients with community partners and service providers to ensure access to necessary services and a smooth reintegration process.

· ​Follow-up: Track client progress and provide ongoing support to ensure the reentry process is successful and sustainable.

Administrative Support:

· ​Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions, progress, and service referrals using electronic case management systems.

· ​Data Entry and Reporting: Enter data into databases and generate regular reports for management and funding organizations as required.

· ​Scheduling: Assist in scheduling appointments, meetings, and follow-ups for clients, service providers, and team members.

· ​Communication: Manage communication between clients, external partners, and internal staff via phone, email, or other channels.

Qualifications:

· ​Education: Justice impacted, Bachelor's degree in social work, criminal justice, psychology, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.

· ​Experience: Minimum of 2 years working in social services, criminal justice, or a related field, preferably with experience supporting individuals involved in the justice system.

· ​Skills:

o ​Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations.

o ​Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle complex, sensitive situations.

o ​Ability to navigate and collaborate with various service providers and community organizations.

o ​Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.

o ​Proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent) and case management systems.

· ​Other:

o Knowledge of local resources available to individuals with criminal backgrounds is a plus.

o ​Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional ethics at all times.

o ​Strong commitment to social justice and the rehabilitation of individuals transitioning from incarceration.

o ​Willing to continue training, staff development, and adhere to our client-centered approach.

Working Conditions:

· ​40 hours weekly contract, Monday through Friday with occasional evening or weekend work required based on client needs.

· ​Office environment with frequent travel to meet clients in the community and navigation of clients.

· ​Occasional work with challenging or high-stress cases.

Compensation & Benefits:

· ​This is a contract position for up to 40 hours a week.

Expected hours: 40 per week

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Evenings as needed
  • Weekends as needed
