Position Summary

Bishop Shanahan High School, a Catholic, co-educational high school committed to academic excellence and faith formation, seeks a dynamic and mission-driven Director of Learning Support. This individual will oversee and enhance a comprehensive Learning Support Program that serves students with diagnosed learning differences, ensuring they receive the accommodation, resources, and support necessary to thrive academically and spiritually. The Director of Learning Support oversees the new St. Francis Xavier Academic Achievement Program and is responsible for facilitating collaboration between students with learning differences, parents, and the teaching staff. Additionally, they will take an active role in the identification and remediation of individual student learning issues to help promote and support academic achievement.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support

  • Provide individualized instruction and support to students with identified needs, including those with learning disabilities, ADHD, and other diagnosed conditions.
  • Read and interpret specialized documentation to develop corresponding accommodation plans.
  • Teach executive functioning skills to improve organization, study habits, and time management.
  • Administer and monitor testing accommodations for students within the program.

Teacher Collaboration

  • Work closely with classroom teachers as the liaison between general education courses and the learning support team.
  • Provide training and resources to teachers on best practices for inclusive education, differentiated instruction, and Universal Design for Learning.

Parental Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to discuss student progress, challenges, and strategies for support at home.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the learning support program.
  • Conduct assessments to identify students’ learning needs and monitor their progress.
  • Maintain detailed records of student progress and program effectiveness.
  • Assist in the review of applications for incoming 9th grade students and transfer students with diagnosed learning differences and provide support to the enrollment team’s decision-making process.

Program Development

  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the learning support program.

Assessment And Evaluation

  • Conduct assessments to identify students’ learning needs and monitor their progress.
  • Maintain detailed records of student progress and program effectiveness.
  • Assist in the review of applications for incoming 9th grade students and transfer students with diagnosed learning differences and provide support to the enrollment team’s decision-making process.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education (master’s degree preferred)
  • Understanding of Special Education and ADA Law within a non-public school
  • Strong knowledge of learning disabilities, executive functioning challenges, and differentiated instruction
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Proficient in the use of educational technology

This is a 12-month, full-time position with benefits.
