Duties Description
A majority New York State Assembly Member is seeking a hard-working self-starter with exceptional communication and organizational skills to serve as a Legislative Director in the Albany office. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with a passion for public service.
Working directly with the Assembly Member and the Chief of Staff to advance the legislative and policy goals of the office, the Legislative Director has multiple responsibilities including:
- Research, develop, and introduce legislative bills for State Assembly consideration
- Provide analysis and recommendations to the Assembly Member on voting for hundreds of pieces of legislation sponsored by other elected official
- Draft press releases, statements, and quotes for various newspapers and publications on topics such as: bill updates, legislative achievements
- Hold in-person and remote constituent and lobbyist meetings on a variety of issues to discuss their concerns and solicit feedback and new ideas for legislation.
- Driving the office’s legislative and committee agenda and strategy
- Advising the Member on floor votes
- Responding to urgent and time-sensitive matters during the evenings and weekends
- Staffing the Assembly Member at events and meetings as needed
- Managing the Members Budget Priorities
