The Office of the Second Judicial District Attorney improves the quality of life of the citizens of Bernalillo County by reducing crime through thoughtful enforcement of the law and the development of a criminal justice system. The Office is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and is seeking applicants for a Special Agent position in Albuquerque. Under the supervision of the Special Agent in Charge, the Special Agent is a sworn law enforcement officer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: This position requires knowledge of the criminal justice system, and the ability to draft documentation such as warrants, reports, and tactical operation plans. This position also requires familiarity with the procedures involved in safely and effectively assist in arrests of individuals. Familiarity with police patrol and operational tactics is also required. It is required to have working knowledge in fugitive apprehension and the apprehension of individuals with active felony or misdemeanor warrants. It will also be the responsibility of the special agent to conduct dignitary protection by providing security for the District Attorney or any individual deemed a dignitary by the District Attorney. Strong interpersonal communication skills with a focus on community policing relations; as well as the ability to communicate effectively and follow directions and policies within the assigned unit.
This position requires the ability to conduct investigations specifically related to organized retail crime. The applicant must possess basic knowledge in investigating and analyzing retail crime. This includes all facets of shoplifting to include up to date criminal code and trends. The position requires an ability to seek investigative methods specifically leading to the successful prosecution of retail crime. Lastly, an ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with local retailers, respective prosecutors and law enforcement.
Requirements: Associates degree in criminology, criminal justice, police science or a related field, or two (2) years work experience in related field, plus New Mexico Peace Officer Certification.
Preferred Qualifications: New Mexico Peace Officer Certification, plus three (3) years work experience, education and/or training in law enforcement; investigations or related field.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both in the office and in the field investigations; considerable physical effort may be required. May be required to be on-call during non-working hours, at the discretion of the Special Agent in Charge. May encounter dangerous situations. The Special Agent will be authorized a take home vehicle for the sole purpose of work use. This position is typically an 8-5 Monday-Friday with some exceptions. Numerous training opportunities are available internally and externally.
