Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a highly motivated individual to join her Health Care Division as a Mediator. The Health Care Division enforces consumer protection laws to protect the rights of consumers, partners with sister agencies and market participants to improve the affordability and accessibility of the Commonwealth’s health care system as part of a public-facing team which works with consumers and mediates complaints with health care payers, providers, and other organizations.
Primary Duties: As part of the Mediation Team, the Mediator will: (1) respond to the many public inquiries related to health care received by the Office from various entities via telephone, email, and mail, working with the public on a wide range of issues; and analyzing and researching various topics to provide information, referrals, and guidance to consumers; (2) mediate consumer complaints over the telephone and in writing related to health insurance coverage and health care services which may involve extended advocacy on a particular issue or issues; and (3) collaborate with other divisions in the Office, other government agencies, and community partners to identify problems of note and strategies for processing and referring complaints.
The Mediator will also have the opportunity to work with other division staff to investigate consumer protection cases or advance the Office’s work related to health equity, health care access, and affordability.

Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (4-plus years) with individual advocacy or conflict mediation or facilitation, especially in a government or nonprofit setting;
- Relevant advanced degree preferred;
- Experience in and knowledge of health care services or health insurance strongly preferred;
- Strong oral communication skills, including the ability to listen to, understand, and clearly and patiently explain complicated matters to individuals, providers, and health care entities;
- Strong written communication skills, including experience and ease in writing letters, memos, emails, summaries, descriptions, and taking dense material and making it clear and accessible;
- Ability to listen well, read carefully, and assess complex situations;
- Strong analytical, research, and organizational skills;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team;
- Experience, skill, and comfort working extensively on the telephone;
- Demonstrated strong work ethic;
- Experience working with diverse populations.
