GENERAL DESCRIPTON
Performs informational and communications work for the Office of the Attorney General’s Child Support Division (CSD) involving collecting and reviewing information to develop, create, and produce content and materials for release to various communications media (print, digital, and/or social) and for use by the agency, the general public, and other government agencies.
The Child Support Division has a statewide caseload of nearly 1.5 million cases. The Information Specialist supports the CSD’s communications efforts by ensuring the accessibility, accuracy, and effectiveness of digital and print materials. This role is essential in maintaining and enhancing web content, assisting with digital engagement, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards, and staying informed about legally mandated and industry standards concerning external-facing communication, and working with management to ensure adherence to these standards. In addition to managing online content, the Information Specialist helps develop and distribute communications to various audiences, supports survey creation and analysis, and reviews materials for clarity and consistency. By contributing to these efforts, the position helps strengthen CSD’s outreach, ensuring that information is clear, engaging, and accessible to all stakeholders and customers.

ESSENTIAL POSTION FUNCTIONS
Information Specialist I:
Develops new and refines existing content for websites, surveys, and social media.
Analyzes content for accessibility and recommends changes to remediate accessibility issues.
Participates in usability testing for external digital content, including surveys and presentations, and develops and recommends enhancements.
Develops internal and external customer surveys and coordinates the approval and dissemination according to established processes.
Communicates verbally and in writing effectively with stakeholders, including senior management and content creators.
Reviews and edits digital content for proper grammar and punctuation.
Conducts research, verifies sources, and ensures the completeness and accuracy of print and online materials.
Identifies and reports potential issues to appropriate levels of management and seeks resolution assistance.
Obtains art and photographs for presentations, publications, and audiovisual productions.
Information Specialist II: All the above functions of an Information Specialist I, PLUS:
Prepares and edits organizational publications, talking points and scripts, e-communications, fact sheets, and content for websites and social media.
Drafts, plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and edits content for publication and distribution in a variety of forms, including electronic publications and email marketing initiatives related to agency services. Designs, researches, writes and edits e-communications and releases for internal or external use; designs and maintains databases, i.e., mailing lists, association & agency lists, media contacts, etc.
Performs related work as assigned
Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions
Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule
Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information
Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Information Specialist I:
Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; experience in the following (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Administration, Marketing, or Media Studies.
Knowledge of traditional and digital media outreach for internal and external audiences.
Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
Skill in effective oral and written communication
Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision-making
Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback
Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment
Ability to provide excellent customer service
Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)
Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA
Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%
Information Specialist II: Meet all the above qualifications for an Information Specialist I, PLUS:
Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Administration, Marketing, Media Studies, or other closely related fields.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Texas Child Support program, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Administration, Marketing, Media Studies, or other closely related fields.
Skills: Excellent communication skills – presentation, written, and verbal. Proficiency in using spreadsheets and word document software. Proficiency in using the SharePoint and Drupal web content management platforms.
Other Language: Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak Spanish.
