JOB SUMMARY
This position is located in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). The incumbent serves as a Data Analyst and is responsible for monitoring the management of the multiple databases used, initiating/recommending corrective action relative to a database structure and design, data quality review and improvement, and creating reports associated with epidemiologic activities. The work supports data needs and assessment, aligns data with the strategic plan, and prepares reports.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitors data quality and reviews and evaluates database processes for compliance with agency and/or contractual specifications and requirements. Plans and completes individual projects or portions of larger projects requiring modification of standard quality assurance methods, procedures, and techniques. Utilizes the agency’s case management system (CMS) database to run data queries and formulates the data for use by the agency in monitoring the reporting of data and in collaborating with agency partners to address database issues, which enhanced support services to District residents and visitors in improving public health and safety.
Collaborates with agency staff, local, regional, and federal stakeholders, as well as grantors, to address database issues, to develop new database needs, to improve current database quality, to pull/improve reports; modify systems; and ensure appropriate levels of system operation. Ensures the accuracy and accessibility of data sources. Analyzes and plans for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements. Reviews medical examiner cases within a specified demographic and timeframe to provide requested mortality data and information per criteria to agency stakeholders and grant partners. Provides quarterly and annual reports to such agency stakeholders and grant partners on outcome measures. Submits such reports in compliance with agency stakeholder or grant timelines.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CS-09 grade level, or its non-District equivalent, gained from the public or private sector. Specialized experience is experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience: experience using software to obtain data and determine the relevance of the analytical information; experience performing qualitative and quantitative data analysis to evaluate alternatives and report on conclusions.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT
Most of the work is performed in an office setting where there is adequate lighting, ventilation, and heating. Work is typically performed on-site; however, occasional travel may be included.
