IT Support Specialist – Austin, Texas

The Office of the Governor is looking for an IT Support Specialist (Information Technology Support Specialist II - III) to work in the Information Services Division.

The salary is $4,583.34 - $5,416.67 a month ($55,000.08 - $65,000.04 a year).

What You’ll Do

This is a job that performs moderately complex (journey-level) to highly complex (senior-level) computer systems support work in a help desk setting. Work involves providing first-line assistance for operational problems of agency IT systems and automated office equipment in a stand-alone, network, or mainframe environment. May assist other staff in performing work of greater complexity.

  • Reviews and prioritizes incoming operational issues and requests for technical assistance related to computers, software, and standard office equipment; identifies and logs the type of problem or request; and monitors the status to ensure a timely resolution.
  • Provides routine technical assistance troubleshooting software and hardware problems, as well as office equipment such as phones, cell-phones, and printers; recognizes and escalates difficult problems to a higher level of support.
  • Provides guidance to OOG staff on installation standards, operating standards, new procedures, and peripheral equipment functions.
  • Installs, maintains, and performs minor repairs to hardware, software, or information resources equipment.
  • Detects errors in job control statements and notifies affected parties following established procedures.
  • Performs system cleanup and assists in the issuing of equipment to staff and the returning of equipment.
  • Maintains records of daily data communication transactions, problems, remedial actions taken, and installation activities.
  • Sets up computers and other office equipment for employees; installs standard software; ensures proper installation of cables; and helps users resolve common hardware, software, and network connectivity issues.
  • Coordinates and/or updates computers, cell-phones, or other devices used by the agency.
  • Assigns logons and rights, print queues, and directory structures; resets passwords, creates divisional groups, and runs security software.
  • Maintains inventory of IT assets.
  • May prepare reports on systems efficiency and utilization.
  • May assist with special projects, as assigned.

How You’ll Qualify

IT Support Specialist II

  • High school graduate or equivalent; and
  • Two (2) years of experience in computer systems support work or other directly related experience.

IT Support Specialist III

  • High school graduate or equivalent; and
  • Three (3) years of experience in computer systems support work or other directly related experience.

Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

You’re a Great Fit with

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in computer science or a related field;
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Windows 10 and 11;
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint); and
  • Experience with Active Directory and Domain environments.
