Deputy Director, Consumer Protection Division


The Consumer Protection Division (CPD) of the Indiana Attorney General’s Office is committed to protecting consumers from unfair, deceptive, abusive, and unlawful business practices. CPD enforces state and federal consumer protection laws, investigates consumer complaints, and takes on investigatory or legal action against violators to safeguard the rights of individuals and businesses.  The Deputy Director is responsible for many of the daily and managerial operations of CPD and plays a key role in leadership of the Division to ensure that enforcement efforts, legal strategy, and policy initiatives are implemented to protect consumers. This individual works closely with the Director and Chief Counsel, Section Chiefs, staff attorneys, investigators, and support staff to ensure effective and efficient enforcement of consumer protection laws. This position reports to the Director and Chief Counsel of the Consumer Protection Division.


Duties include:


Assist in the oversight and management of the Division by communicating and implementing team values and contributing to strategic policy and business decisions to achieve overall organizational goals. This position includes direct supervision of Section Chiefs and additional personnel as well as regular interaction with the executive team. 


Supervise and mentor attorneys, investigators, and support staff. 


Assist with the development and implementation of strategic enforcement initiatives to address cutting edge consumer protection initiatives.  


Communicating with the Section Chiefs regarding training initiatives and needs, coaching/counseling/discipline, maintaining positive morale, and reporting on high-profile or complex cases to the Executive Team and/or Attorney General.


Monitor key performance indicators through a Salesforce platform to ensure that the Division is receiving and processing matters efficiently and effectively. 


Collaborate with other states, federal agencies, local agencies, outside counsel and other stakeholders on consumer protection matters. 


Provide guidance to the Attorney General, senior staff, and the public when directed on emerging consumer protection issues, legislative developments, and policy recommendations. 


Engage with consumers, businesses, and other stakeholders to promote education and compliance with consumer protection laws. 


The Deputy Director will conduct regularly scheduled meetings with his/her direct reports, will monitor and review systems in place in the respective sections, providing input and working with Section Chiefs to improve processes when applicable.


While relatively infrequent, travel will be necessary at times.


Qualifications:

 

Admitted to Indiana Bar and in good standing.


Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to make presentations to various groups, as necessary.


Outstanding managerial skills and the ability to positively motivate a wide range of employees.


Excellent organizational skills, ability to work with various sections and entities simultaneously, while maintaining the ability to quickly and properly analyze procedures.


Ability to work well with clients and other stakeholders, possessing a strong sense of ethics and awareness of potential conflicts of interest, while adhering in all aspects to Rules of Professional Conduct and State ethics rules.


Other duties as assigned.
