Opens, assigns, acknowledges or rejects Withdrawal Cases
- Description of Tasks Performed to Complete Activity: Utilizing knowledge of the NYSLRS Portal, Retirement and Social Security Law (RSSL) and the policies and procedures that govern vesting, terminations for inactivity and withdrawals from membership, performs steps necessary to update cases to “Open” status in their name. Conducts a visual inspection of associated Withdrawal Application to determine if all needed fields have been completed and that the member meets legal filing requirements. Sends out an acknowledgement letter or rejection letter to requestor, as deemed appropriate and adds Case Note (indicating reject reason, when it is necessary to reject a request). Closes any Case Tasks completed and updates Case Status to “Hold” or “Rejected”.
- Reviews cases in “Hold” status and ascertains what, if any, further documentation, or information will be required for the ERSE 1 (SG-9) to continue processing the case. Sends out requests to the appropriate party(ies) detailing what is needed (i.e. dates last worked, proof of a name change, etc.). Updates appropriate tasks within the case.
- Responds to inquiries from reciprocal systems for requests to provide service and salary information. Knowledge of MEBEL and PeopleSoft systems are required. Must check pages on applicable system which includes: Member 360, Update Employee Plan Data, Review Plan History, Employee Accounts, Loan information, and the Withdrawal Contribution. Examiner must also review entire FileNet record to ensure all pertinent information is included in our response to the other system. Examiner fills out the form with information they have gathered and attaches any documentation required for salary requests and uploads to FileNet before sending the completed request to the Reciprocal System.
- Responds to simple inquiries from members, non-members, financial institutions, and employers using templated email responses and/or verbal communication skills to resolve the questions timely, in an accurate, clear and concise manner.

- Knowledge of agency policies and program policies, procedures and functions.
- Ability to read, understand and apply laws, procedures, rules, regulations and guidelines.
- Ability to prepare reports composed of narrative as well as numerical information.
- Ability to successfully use software required by the position, including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams and its calendaring features/scheduling, team rooms, and bulletin boards; Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and NYSLRS Portal and MEBEL system.
- Ability to use common office equipment, including laptops, photocopiers, scanners, calculators, etc.
- Ability to perform tasks accurately within prescribed time frames.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally as required for the position.
