The Office of the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit is represented by The Honorable Monique H. Worrell and serves Orange and Osceola counties in Central Florida. Applicants must be a member in good standing with The Florida Bar. Applicants must possess a strong interest in being a trial lawyer and have excellent communication and critical thinking skills. Applicants must have the time management and organizational skills required to manage a large volume caseload. Applicants must be able to work independently and as a team member. Must be able to legally work in the US without additional immigration authorization, employer sponsorship request or other assistance from the employer.

What is the Conviction Integrity Unit? The (CIU) is a separate unit within the Post-Conviction Bureau. Its sole purpose is to investigate claims of innocence capable of investigation and resolution. This is done through an application process initiated by individuals, family members, and organizations that believe there is a plausible claim of innocence in a particular case. It is not an active trial unit in the traditional sense. It is a specialized unit that operates after the case has been closed in one manner or another. It at times works in conjunction with the Post-Conviction Unit if there is an open active motion for relief.

Responsibilities:
- Investigate, Review, advise, and litigate, if necessary, cases that have compelling proof of actual innocence.
- Independently handle court appearances, depositions, written responses to post-conviction matters, and other similar type pleadings.
- Work as part of a team with all levels of experience.
- Routine communications with victims, law enforcement, other members of the community both legal and civilian.
- Provide leadership and direction with respect to less experienced staff members.
- JD from an ABA-approved school.
- Must be licensed in FL.
- Must live in 9th judicial circuit.
- 8 years of solid litigation experience, specifically with appellate and/or post-conviction experience in criminal law. Litigation experience includes taking of depositions, drafting legal responses, motion practice, and jury trials as lead attorney. Experience can be any combination of criminal defense or prosecution practice. Some civil litigation may be considered.
- Strong understanding of the rules of evidence & forensic evidentiary principles, theories, rules, and case law.
- Experience in evaluating laboratory results and a strong understanding of ballistic, fingerprint, biological, and DNA evidence.
- Ability to attend periodic training both in and out of state.
- Ability to manage full case-handling responsibilities, including all facets of research and case investigation.
- Proficiency in MS Suite, specifically Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. A general grasp on computers and current technology.
- Ability to think and act independently and with minimal supervision.
- Outstanding listening, verbal and written communication skills.
- Organization is a must.
