The Wayne County Prosecuting Attorney is seeking a full-time Paralegal/Diversion Administrative Assistant.
Position: Paralegal and Diversion Administrative Assistant. This position is designated unclassified/non-exempt from the FLSA.
Job Purpose: Provides paralegal and administrative assistance and support to the Prosecuting Attorney, Diversion Coordinator, and Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys.
Paralegal/Administrative Assistant Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Extensive familiarity with, and ability to use, Word, Excel, and Outlook software.
2. Ability to learn and use the Matrix software systems to record court dates and entries, assign cases, and draft paperwork for the Diversion Program, Juvenile Delinquency matters, and Civil Division.
3. Drafts a variety of basic and complex legal documents, including legal appeals and opinions, and ensures that legal requirements are met.
4. Creates case management records and drafts complaints, discovery demands and responses, subpoenas, motions, amendments, memos, correspondence, etc.
5. Research, analyze, and interpret Ohio case law and statutes.
6. Proofreads documents for typographical, formatting, and grammatical errors; recognizes errors and makes corrections.
7. Electronically navigates and files legal documentation with the court’s Benchmark system.
8. Maintains filing system, accesses documentation, assembles information, and closes cases. Responds to email inquiries and communicates with witnesses for court hearings.
9. Obtains and maintains Ohio Notary Commission certification and notarizes documents.
10. Assists the Wayne County Treasurer’s Office in preparing and filing of delinquent land foreclosures.
11. Assists the Wayne County Department of Job & Family Services by preparing legal documentation for adult protective services.
12. Maintains Assistant Prosecutor’s calendar, makes appointments, and reviews case files for following day’s docket.
13. Answers and transfers telephone calls and relays messages to office personnel; gather’s information and provides guidance.
14. Maintains a professional relationship with outside agencies, clients, co-workers, and the general public.
15. Retains case files pursuant to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s record retention schedule.
16. Fills in as a back-up and performs relief duties for other legal secretaries within the Juvenile and General Division.
17. Performs any other duties which the Prosecuting Attorney may assign.
Skills/Qualifications: An Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies from an accredited school, strong work ethic, professionalism, ability to multitask and prioritize, attention to detail, excellent writing and oral communication skills, Microsoft Office proficiency, and problem solving ability and Westlaw and/or LexisNexis proficiency and experience with court processes is preferred. Pay Range for this position is $21.50 to $30.10/hour and will include full county benefits.
