Position Summary
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Safety, Health, and Sustainability (SHS) Supervisor will work with plant management to ensure a safe and incident free workplace. They will plan, implement, and oversee the company’s safety programs and perform forklift safety trainings and certifications. This position will hold monthly safety meetings, assist injured employees with transportation to initial clinic visit and ensure the company complies and adheres to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries and environmental laws and regulations.
A qualified SHS Supervisor will be able to analyze complex plans and be able to identify mistakes and inefficiencies. They will work well leading teams and training employees. They should be approachable and outgoing with an ability to effectively communicate.
Position Responsibilities
- Assist Plant Manager and Human Resources in administering the Workers Compensation and Employee Return to Work (RTW) Programs. Work closely with HR Management to oversee RTW steps.
- Review, analyze, and investigate work related accidents and/or injury reports.
- Ensure arrangements for forklift training and certifications for new hires and recertifications for existing employees are available
- Coordinate, and at times, conduct employee monthly safety meetings at all facilities.
- Facilitate investigations into employee inquiries, suggestions, and complaints.
- Respond to and provide support during work-related incidents. Must be willing to respond to incidents in off hours.
- Develop and implement hazmat procedures and policies.
- Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace.
- Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.
- Coordinate on-site annual hearing tests and ensure proper tracking and documentation.
- Work with production management team on implementing employee safety practices, provide training and follow up as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering, or another related field
- 5 or more years of Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and/or Safety experience in a manufacturing environment
- OSHA 30 Certification
- Preferred but not required are recognized EHS certification(s) (for example, CSP, CIH)
- Bilingual, English, and Spanish, is required.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required. Will be required to transport injured employees, if applicable.
- Excellent written and verbal skills required.
- Ability to respond to incidents in off hours, 24/7 availability is required.
- Relevant experience in safety, environmental, or health management and compliance is required.
- In depth knowledge of Occupational Safety Health (OSH) guidelines and practices is required.
- Experience in reporting and developing policies is required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs is required. Excellent communication and advisory skills are required.
