Reports to : Special Education Coordinator / Director of Student Services

Job Summary :

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. The SLP will work collaboratively with educators, parents, and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and strategies to support students' communication needs, ensuring they have equitable access to education.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Assessment and Diagnosis :

Conduct comprehensive assessments of students' speech and language abilities using standardized tests and observational techniques.

  • Diagnose speech, language, and communication disorders, and develop treatment plans.
  • Prepare detailed reports outlining assessment results, recommendations, and treatment plans.
  • Intervention and Therapy :
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment programs for students with speech and language disorders.

  • Provide direct therapy services to students in individual and group settings.
  • Monitor and document students' progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices and remain current on best practices in speech and language therapy.
  • Collaboration and Consultation :
  • Work closely with teachers, special education staff, and other school personnel to support students' communication needs within the classroom environment.

  • Participate in IEP meetings, providing expertise on speech and language goals and accommodations.
  • Serve as a resource for school staff and parents regarding speech and language development and disorders.
  • Provide training to teachers and staff on strategies to support students with speech and language needs in the classroom.
  • Compliance and Documentation :
  • Maintain accurate records of therapy sessions, progress notes, and communications with parents and staff.

  • Ensure all services and documentation comply with federal, state, and district regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to speech and language services within the district.
  • Professional Development :
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain licensure and stay informed of advancements in speech-language pathology.

  • Participate in district-provided training and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to the role.
  • Qualifications :

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Valid state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.
  • Experience working in a school setting is preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of IEP processes and special education law.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations, parents, and staff
