EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I - OPERATIONS

Pay Grade: GRADE 125: $46,533.26 - $67,473.23 Annual Salary ($22.37 - $32.44 Hourly Rate).
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time, Eligible for benefits.
GENERAL PURPOSE
This position assists in performing semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance, and related service activities related to street, traffic, and utility maintenance. Receive direct supervision from the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Crew Leader.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Operate construction and maintenance equipment and power tools such as dump trucks, front-end loader, and backhoe, compressors, jack hammers, paint sprayers, concrete saws, street sweeper, rollers, crack sealer, tar pots, edgers and blowers or any other equipment needed in street maintenance.
- Maintain hand tools and assigned equipment; perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Read and understand grade stakes.
- Experience using cutting torch and welding.
- Know and understand underground utility locating procedures and "blue stake" policies and procedures.
- Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of street repair activities.
- Direct and control traffic around work sites and maintain a current flagging certification.
- Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner and provide information within the area of assignment.
- Resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Respond to all emergency snow removal and ice control duties as required.
- Be available for recall during any hour for any emergency condition.
- Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
- Willing to accept duty as the Division's stand-by person for a one-week period and respond to emergency calls 24-hours a day during this period.
- Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employee is required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employee is required to communicate in-person with the public during office hours; and employee is required to use on-site equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid, Class A Utah CDL driver's license with tankers endorsements within 150 days of hire.
- Employee will be required to complete NIMS IS100, IS200, IS700, and IS800 within one year of hire.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- At least two years of field maintenance experience in construction, street, traffic and/or utilities; one year of experience in concrete finishing is preferred.
