MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN II

Pay Grade: GRADE 125: $46,533.26 - $67, 473.23 Annual Salary ($22.37 - $32.44 Hourly). Rate is determined dependent on qualifications. Typically hire at minimum.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Merit, Full-Time, and Eligible for benefits.
GENERAL PURPOSE
This position performs a variety of skilled labor involved in the planning, care, construction, and maintenance of Parks, cemeteries, and recreational facilities. Receives functional supervision from the Parks Area Maintenance Supervisor. Performs technical work in the fields of chemical application and refuse collection throughout the park system. Responsible for Weber County Community Service Workers periodically and will carry out rules and policies associated with this program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manage, maintain, and report on refuse collection from the parks and trail system.
- Operate the Park's refuse truck and collect refuse and related materials throughout the parks, trails, cemetery, and recreational facilities.
- Determines thresholds and identifies and schedules pest control treatments throughout the year to stay below the predetermined thresholds.
- Sets up, mixes chemicals, and operates hand and power spray equipment and or spreads various chemicals and designated materials, including pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, pre-emergent seeds, and specified soil amendments.
- Manage an integrated pest management program that utilizes industry standards.
- Maintain records of assigned work, including work performed, pesticide usage, equipment repair and maintenance, and inventory management of refuse cans, pesticides/fertilizers, and other assigned supplies.
- Prepare and maintain various logs and reports, such as inspections, inventories, and reports necessary to track and accomplish work.
- Operate construction and maintenance equipment and power tools such as a refuse truck, pressure washer, dump truck, backhoe, flush truck, compressor, mowers, edgers, and blowers; maintain hand tools and assigned equipment; and perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Perform a variety of park maintenance duties, including plant maintenance and landscape duties, including trimming trees and shrubs, raking recreation areas, watering plants and trees, sweeping, and clearing fallen trees from the public paths and walkways.
- Participate in setting up and breaking down various special events, including Ogden's Christmas Village and the Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo.
- Direct the work of up to six people in the landscape and facilities maintenance of parks, grounds, sports fields, and gardens throughout the city.
- Perform safety audits of assigned facilities; keep accurate records.
- Assist with turf maintenance, including irrigation, mowing, and cleaning.
- Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of chemical application and park maintenance.
- Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Perform snow removal and ice control duties as required.
- Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation and water lines, services, valves, and backflow prevention devices.
- Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employees are required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employees are required to communicate in person with the public during office hours; and employees are required to use on-site equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 150 days of hire, a Utah State Class A CDL with Tanker and Airbrake endorsements.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, a Utah State Pesticide Category 3 Turf and Ornamental Applicators License.
- The employee will be required to complete NIMS IS100 and IS700 within six months of the hire date.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- At least three years of experience in maintaining commercial/municipal type grounds, trails, parks, and recreational facilities, or experience in chemical application and/or integrated pest management.
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying.
