PART-TIME BUILDING MONITOR
Department: Public Services
Division: Recreation, Marshall N. White Center
Pay: $15.00- $25.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
Work Status: Flexible Part-Time Schedules. Required for evenings, mornings, weekends, and holidays.
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE PT-BUILDING MONITOR
Under the direction of Recreation Supervisor II, the Building Monitor is responsible for the opening and closing of the Marshall N. White Center, completing morning and night checklists, and ensuring the facility is maintained for rentals, events, and general operations. This role requires strong organizational skills, excellent public relations, and the ability to work independently while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for patrons.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have a valid Utah Driver's License.
- Must have, or be able to obtain, CPR certification.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to interact professionally with the public.
- Must be able to work independently and make sound decisions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least three (3) years of experience teaching in creative arts, athletics, or a related field.
- Experience working with K-12-aged students and/or adults.
- Relevant certifications in art, music, design, teaching, or athletics preferred.
- Spanish Speaking preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Facility Operations:
- Open and close the Marshall N. White Center, following security protocols.
- Complete morning and night checklists to ensure facility readiness.
- Oversee rental setups and takedowns, ensuring proper arrangements.
- Enforce facility rules and report on any security or safety concerns.
- Provide excellent customer service to guests, community members, and event organizers.
- Communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
Maintenance & Safety:
- Perform light building maintenance (cleaning, sweeping, painting, minor repairs).
- Remove snow and ice using shovels, blowers, and spreaders as needed.
- Monitor and report any facility issues or safety concerns to management.
- Ensure compliance with city safety and risk management standards.
- Participate in safety and risk management activities to reduce liability.
- Support additional city programs and recreational activities when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Some experience in building security, facility maintenance, or event coordination preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This role requires physical effort, including lifting 75 lbs., walking, standing, stooping, reaching, and working at heights.
- Must be able to work additional shifts on short notice as needed.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. The work environment may vary and be cold or hot depending on weather conditions.
- Ability to safely walk, shovel walkways for snow removal, as well as working around water with slippery conditions at times.
