PART-TIME MUSEUM COLLECTIONS ASSISTANT
DEPARTMENT: Community and Economic Development
DIVISION: Union Station
Rate of pay: $14.00/hour, up to 20 hours per week.
Job Summary
The Museums at Union Station preserve and share the history of Utah railroading, the history of Ogden, and the cultural heritage and legacy of everyone who has come through or lived in Ogden. We are seeking a Museum Collections Assistant to assist in a wide variety of collections initiatives to help advance the Museum's mission and access to collections. This will include physical care, intellectual management, collections research, and inventory and cataloging of new and existing collections. This position is under the direction of the Museum Administrator.
Essential Job Functions
Under supervision of the Museum Administrator, this position performs work including:
Physical Requirements
Work both in an office environment with occasional outdoor work. Work includes sitting, walking, and standing. Must be able to lift approximately 30 lbs.

Driver license report (MVR) will be obtained by the Human Resources division if applicable.

Essential Job Functions
Under supervision of the Museum Administrator, this position performs work including:
- Assisting with data collection, data cleanup, and organization of collections management software in execution of software transition.
- Assist with collections assessment by packing and unpacking items, rehousing objects, evaluating condition of objects, writing descriptions, and measuring objects.
- Assist in the inventory and intellectual control of museum collections.
- Handle fragile collections items, including artwork, historical artifacts and tools, photographs, archival materials, and rare books in line with museum object handling standards.
- Assist in collections care, including pest management, object cleaning, and detection mitigation of the agents of deterioration.
- Research information about collections, collections provenance, and historical context for collections to assist with the development of exhibits, educational materials, and programs.
- Understand, support, and share the Museums at Union Station's mission and vision
- Assist in other museum activities as assigned.
- Experience in museum collections, archives, or library science is highly preferred
- Proven interest in history, public history, social history, or history of science and technology in engagement for a general audience.
- Unusually detail-oriented and commitment to accuracy
- Superior written communication skills and ability to communicate
- Excellent verbal communication skills with internal partners and external stakeholders
- Strong ability to work and collaborate with a team
- Strong project management skills with a high level of organization and attention to detail
- Highly motivated and well-organized in dealing with long-term project management
