Description:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Equity & Access and the Director of Student Achievement, the CLD Teacher Specialist will be an expert in, and coach for, cultural linguistic relevance in a diverse school district. The CLD Teacher Specialist will promote systems that advance the Ogden School District vision for our English Language Development (ELD) programs and supports. The specialist will coach ELD educators as they work to implement our ELD curriculum, gather evidence of effective (ELD) instructional practices, and lead district and building professional learning sessions and workshops. The specialist will assist in compliance with state and federal guidelines for ELD programs.
Responsibilities:
- Model, coach, present, prepare materials, assess, and teach acculturation, culturally responsive pedagogy, bias prevention, and inclusion
- Model, coach, present, prepare materials, assess, and teach language acquisition, language transfer, sheltered approaches such as SIOP and/or CALLA, and all facets of English language development for school personnel working with recent immigrants and other English language learners, including long-term English language learners
- Participate in collaborative meetings with the Equity and Access and Student Achievement Teams
- Observe classroom ELD instructional practices and provide targeted feedback
- Participate in professional learning community meetings
- Plan, present, and or facilitate schoolwide and districtwide professional development
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to continuously improve ELD practices
- Evaluate and manage ELD resources
- Assist in compliance with state and federal guidelines for ELD programs
Required Qualifications:
- Utah teaching license
- Three years work experience as a licensed educator in a public educational setting
- English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsement (or equivalent)
- Self-directed, organized, and motivated
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Proven ability to work positively with individuals and teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish
- Reading Endorsement
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Knowledge of civil rights and educational equity
Contract Length:
183.5 days with the option of an additional 10 days per supervisor’s approval
