In this role, you’ll not only prepare and serve food but also share your expertise, helping students refine their skills under the guidance of Culinary Arts Instructors. You'll ensure smooth operations, maintain a clean and organized workspace, and even assist with cashier duties when needed.

- Exhibit and model excellent customer service skills and professional culinary skills.
- Practice good organization, sanitation and cleanliness at all times.
- Mentor and train culinary arts students, providing guidance on grilling techniques, kitchen safety, and culinary best practices.
- Take orders from customers and use a griddle, grill and deep fryer to prepare, cook, plate and garnish a variety breakfast, lunch, and dinner foods.
- Create and maintain a positive learning environment where students can develop their skills and grow as culinary professionals.
- Provide guidance and support to students working in the grill area, answering questions and offering assistance as needed.
- Foster a positive and collaborative working environment in the grill station and food truck, promoting teamwork and professionalism among students and staff.
- Plan work on orders so that items served together are finished at the same time. Monitor and practice portion control.
- Assist the Cashier in setting up the salad bar, grill case, and hot food line. Ensure the grill area is appropriately stocked with food products, paper products, and utensils. Replenish items as needed.
- Clean and maintain food preparation equipment, work areas, and counters or tables. This includes but is not limited to changing oil in the deep fryer as needed and cleaning the griddle, grill, refrigeration unit, and all cabinets, counters, and surfaces used during the performance of the short order cook's responsibilities.
- Manage supply inventory by properly stocking grill area, notifying instructors when supplies are low, using the FIFO system for flow of materials, and following restaurant and U.S. Department of Health sanitation guidelines for handling and storage of food products.
- Act as back-up cashier when necessary.
- The incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned.
- Current food handler's permit required.
- Two (2) years of experience as a as a grill cook or chef in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- One (1) year of supervisor or team lead experience.
- Must have a valid Utah driver’s license.
- Must exhibit excellent customer service skills.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively mentor and motivate students.
- Familiarity with griddle, grill, deep fryer, and other kitchen equipment.
- Demonstrate ability to work with individuals of all racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Preference will be given to individuals with a certificate or degree in Culinary Arts.
- ServSafe certification preferred.
- Spanish speaking proficiency desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 40 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
- Risks found in the typical kitchen setting, which is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated, e.g., safe use of kitchen equipment & cleaning chemicals, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
- Ability to drive the food truck to off-site events, requiring sitting for extended periods and maneuvering the vehicle safely. This may require the need to work evening hours as needed.
Working Hours: Tuesday – Thursday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
