Oglala Sioux Lakota Nursing Home is a State-of-the-art, 60-bed long-term care unit with a 12-bed memory care unit.

Job Description
Purpose of Position:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Food Services to oversee the planning, development, and management of our Dietary Department. This individual will work closely with the Administrator and Consulting Dietitian to ensure high-quality nutritional services are provided to our residents, all while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary food service environment in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and implementation of dietary programs, policies, and activities.
- Coordinate with other departments, including Nursing, Housekeeping, and Social Services, to ensure smooth operations of dietary services.
- Supervise, recruit, and evaluate dietary staff; oversee scheduling and performance management.
- Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and job descriptions for all dietary personnel.
- Ensure quality food service operations, including food storage, preparation, and sanitation.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with dietary standards and regulations.
- Participate in various facility committees, including Infection Control and Quality Assurance.
- Assist in preparing the departmental budget and managing costs related to food, supplies, and labor.
- Conduct regular inspections of the dietary department to ensure cleanliness and safety.
- Manage the ordering of food supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.
- Plan, implement, and monitor special diets as prescribed by attending physicians.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of an accredited course in dietetic training approved by the American Dietetic Association.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity in a healthcare setting, such as a hospital or skilled nursing facility.
- Certification as a Food Service Director in the state.
- Strong knowledge of dietary practices and procedures, along with relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines.
- Ability to make independent decisions and work harmoniously with staff, residents, and visitors.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in food management, diet therapy, and cost control in a medical facility.
- Familiarity with healthcare facility policies and regulations governing dietary functions.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
- Ability to move throughout the facility and perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to manage the physical and emotional demands of the role.
Working Conditions:
- Work in both office and dietary service areas, including kitchens, dining rooms, and resident areas.
- May involve exposure to infectious waste and other health-related hazards.
- Must be able to work beyond regular hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
