The Director of Catering and Conference Services is responsible for overseeing all aspects of catering sales, event planning, and execution at Oglebay Resort. This position ensures exceptional service and seamless coordination for meetings, conferences, weddings, and other special events. The Director leads a team of catering and event professionals, ensuring revenue growth, client satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Supervise and mentor the Catering and Conference Services team, including catering sales managers, conventions event planners and bus and tour planers.
- Establish and maintain high service standards for event execution and guest experience.
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance team skills and performance.
- Collaborate with the Food & Beverage, Sales, and Operations teams to ensure seamless event execution.
- Drive catering sales by developing new business opportunities and maintaining strong relationships with existing clients.
- Work closely with the Sales team to generate leads and convert inquiries into bookings.
- Create and implement catering packages, pricing strategies, and promotions to maximize revenue.
- Conduct site visits and client meetings to present catering and event options.
- Develop long-term partnerships with corporate clients, social event planners, and community organizations.
- Oversee all aspects of event planning, including logistics, menu selection, room setup, and service execution.
- Work closely with clients to understand their vision and customize events to their needs.
- Ensure that all event details are communicated clearly to internal teams for flawless execution.
- Conduct pre-event meetings with stakeholders and post-event evaluations to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and manage the department’s annual budget, forecasting revenue and controlling expenses.
- Analyze catering and event sales data to identify trends and opportunities for growth.
- Work with accounting to ensure accurate billing, contract compliance, and profitability of events.
- Collaborate with culinary, banquet, and operations teams to maintain high-quality food, beverage, and service standards.
- Address and resolve client concerns, ensuring satisfaction and long-term relationships.
- Complete appropriate trainings listed on the human resources Training Matrix.
- Adhere to Wheeling Park Commission’s safety rules and policy; refer any and all safety concerns to department manager, safety committee or human resources.
- Interact with the public with a cheerful and positive attitude, solve guest problems and complaints in a proper manner, and maintain harmonious working relationships with fellow employees.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages 6-8 employees in Catering and Conference Services. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
