Assistant Professor of Music

OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music to start in Fall 2025. This new hire will be responsible for directing the University’s Chorale Program, teaching new and existing courses in areas such as music technology, songwriting, digital music notation, and music theory, and contributing to the University’s Core curriculum.

Responsibilities will include full-time teaching (3/3 course load), engaging in regular service to the university, and maintaining an active professional practice. This new hire will serve as Director of the Music Program, which includes two vocal ensembles, two instrumental ensembles, and a robust applied music instruction program.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants should possess a DMA or PhD at the time of appointment, as well as relevant teaching experience (or equivalent professional experience).Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to teaching from a liberal arts perspective, stressing excellent writing skills, theoretical understanding, critical analysis, and connecting theory to practice.  Furthermore, we are seeking candidates who will take advantage of the learning opportunities our Atlanta location has to offer by encouraging students to attend concerts/performances in the community (this may include organizing trips to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and/or other local ensembles) and engaging in student recruitment activities.
